Several years ago, Robin and Batman faced their first case together, battling the super villain known as Scarecrow. Unknown to Robin, there was more to the case then meets the eye. In the present, attending to a mission from Spyral into Gotham, he finds himself attacked by forces of Mother, betrayed, and meets a mysterious girl by the name of Cassandra Cain. From her, he learns of Batman's greatest sin and regret. Meanwhile, Harper Row is targeted by a masked man by the name of Orphan.

Years ago, Dick recounts his time as Robin. During his hunt for Scarecrow, he is exposed to his fear gad for the first time, plaguing on his insecurities. In the present, beaten to the inch of her life, Harper Row is narrowly saved by the intervention of Cassandra Cain as Dick Grayson closes in on a lead. While Cassandra Cain battles Orphan, Agent 37 tends to a wounded Harper Row and learns that her and her roommate, Stephanie Brown (Spoiler), are both vigilantes. Realizing those on the list could be targeted, Agent 37 and the others warn Red Hood of an assassin, only for him to have already engaged Cassandra Cain.

Years ago, having been exposed to Scarecrow's fear toxin, Robin describes Batman the effects of the fear gas on him. In the present, Red Hood engages into a fist fight with the girl, Cassandra Cain. Meanwhile, Dr. Ashemoore defects from Spyral fully with intention to stay on Mother's side. As Cassandra and Hood fight, he is stopped by Grayson and brought up to speed. With Harper Row mortally injured, they trasfer her to the Batcave for medical treatment. As they tried to make sense of the situation, Dick is contracted by Matron and Doctor Netz, who's own investigation leads to the discovery of Mother being a human trafficker as well as Poppy's call going to Beacon Tower. They learn the target they're after is Bruce Wayne. As this realization is made, Cassandra Cain slips away.

Targeted by Mother's forces, an amnesiac Bruce Wayne is saved in time by the intervention of Grayson as he holds off the assassins and is later assisted by the likes of Batgirl and We are Robin. As Cassandra attempts to find a way out, Bluebird attempts to rein her in but soon ends up following them without the knowledge of the other Batfamily members. Learning that the names listed can be remotely controlled,Dick investigates the unknown past of Tim Drake.
Gotham City Police Department (Flashback and Main Story)
Tracking Scarecrow, Batman and Robin learn of other's involvement. Despite their investigation, however, they do not learn of those Scarecrow had spoken too. In the present, Dick travel to the Drake's household to learn more about Tim. He is, however, interrupted by former Spyral doctor Poppy Ashemoore and is attacked. Meanwhile, Bluebird and Cassandra Cain engage in a scuffle with Orphan. Although they succeed in driving him away, Cassandra is sadden by his words and is comforted by Bluebird. Taking down Poppy Ashemoore, Dick escapes from the automatic Drake household and confronted by Red Robin. Angry at Dick for learning of his past behind is back, he is even more angry for Dick's reasoning for doing so.
